Why families choose ML Academy

Confidence

Children learn to take on unfamiliar problems without fear, defend their ideas out loud, and treat mistakes as part of the work.

Real skills — on par with adults

Olympiad-level problems inside real themes: students model, test, improve and explain — the way engineers and researchers work. Not a simplified 'kids' version'.

Mentors with a strong background

Classes are led by an engineer who led an international math olympiad and by a business-school professor and tech entrepreneur — people who use these skills in their own work.

Enriches your child's school program

Math Lab complements any school curriculum: students explore ideas school rarely has time for — reasoning, modeling, strategy and proof — and bring that confidence back to class. Problems come from the programs of strong math and olympiad schools. Terms run alongside the school year (Fall, Winter, Spring) and fit after school.

Our approach

Thinking becomes powerful when it leads to action.

At the core are topics and problems from the programs of strong math and olympiad schools. We don't just solve problems one after another — we integrate olympiad math into themed sessions: codes, structures, number systems, chance, networks and strategy.

Reasoning

Find patterns and explain why a solution works.

Mathematical Modeling

Represent real situations with numbers, diagrams, and rules.

Experimentation

Test a hypothesis, use evidence, and improve.

Strategic Action

Choose a method and turn it into a working result.

Communication and Proof

Explain clearly and support conclusions with evidence.

US: join any Wednesday after the free intro. Europe: join at the start of a module. Full term recommended.

Fall term: 6 modules

Each module pairs a theme with olympiad problems on the same idea — students first explore the theme, then solve and defend olympiad-level problems built on it.

US: join any Wednesday after the free intro. Europe: join at the start of a module. We recommend a full 12-week term for the complete experience: patterns, models, evidence, optimization, and proof build across modules; individual modules are welcome.

Two meetings per module

How a module works

Discover the idea, apply it, and explain your result.

Session 1: Discover and Model

  • Explore a challenge, ask questions, and find patterns.
  • Build and test an initial model or strategy.
  • Take a short practice task into the week.

Session 2: Apply and Defend

  • Test approaches, compare results, and improve.
  • Complete an individual or group result.
  • Present and defend your reasoning.

Ages 8–10

Visual examples, physical models, games, and guided questions help children organize ideas, complete a challenge, and explain their reasoning.

Ages 11–13

Abstract models, tighter constraints, and multiple strategies develop independent decisions, optimization, evidence, and proof.

Ages 8–10 and 11–13 start together in separate online classrooms, with pace and depth matched to age. Starting point: an accessible entry · Core: the shared investigation · Extension: a harder application or proof. No child is labeled; the mentor adjusts the challenge.

Progress and practice

Progress & between sessions

Progress shows up as growing confidence and skills: students take on challenges, learn from mistakes, and see their work improve.

A portfolio of thinking in action

  • A result for each module attended (six in a full term).
  • Models, maps, strategies, or experiments with short explanations.
  • Mentor feedback and a closing reflection or presentation.

Parents see what their child created, how they handled challenges, and how their independence grew—not grades or promised test outcomes.

20–60 minutes a week

Short Core Practice reinforces the concept and prepares for the next meeting; an optional Challenge Extension goes further. Between sessions, students can also practice in Math Gym — free.

Test a structure, improve a map, solve connected problems, refine a strategy, or record an explanation.

Free for everyone

Math Gym — practice that builds real mastery

Math Gym is our online practice app, free for every student — enrolled in Math Lab or not. Between sessions, students train consistently, learn independently at their own pace, and keep the skills they've mastered sharp.

  • Consistent practice — short workouts that grow skill step by step.
  • Independent learning — hints and step-by-step solutions when you're stuck.
  • Lasting mastery — revisit topics, earn points, and watch your progress.

Lab problem sets, Kangaroo and olympiad problems, secret codes, and logic games.
